2. ROTARY DRYER FOR CARBON BLACK
Kilburn has supplied several rotary dryers for Carbon Black. These dryers have proved their superiority and acquired international claim for its quality and operational performance.
Recently a Rotary Dryer has been supplied to CABOT Inc., USA for their Ville Platte Plant.

PADDY DRYER
The current methods of drying paddy can be called rather primitive. The objective is to cook soaked paddy for gelatinisation of Starch. The available equipments are very inefficient in respect to thermal efficiency and quality of product.
Method
In the existing rice mills, cooking is carried of soaked by passing live steam. Operator filled up a soaked paddy batch in a cooking tank which is open from top. Cooking tank is having a pipe with perforation and this pipe is connected to steam line.
After filling a batch in a cooking tank, operator opens the steam valve. As the steam start coming out or tank is getting pressurized, operator closes down the steam valve and the cooked paddy is transferred for further processing.
Major disadvantage of using this technique is the increase in moisture level in paddy further. Moisture in soaked paddy is 32-34% W/B. by steaming, moisture increase to 36-38%. This results additional heat load requirement during drying process.
New Method
We have developed new innovative idea to heat the water in the soaked paddy to raise the temperature of water to 900 C for geletinisation. With this technique, soaked paddy continuously passed through paddle cooker.
No batch, but system become continuous. No further addition of water during steaming. This results no extra heat load requirement for further processing.
The proto-type models have completed extensive field trials for drying paddy. Commercial dryers are now available.
