This unit will be most economical as compared to any other purification system, if the recovered organic vapour can be recycled. Normally cost of the solvent is so high that investment is recovered in less than a year. |
In process industries such as Petrochemicals, Pharmaceuticals, Rubber Adhesives, Printing, films and tapes, ORGANIC SOLVENTS are normally vented to atmosphere. These can be recovered to avoid atmospheric pollution and for reuse by installing ACTIVATED CARBON UNITS. |
These units normally have two towers packed with activated carbon. The solvent laden air is passed through one tower where the solvent is adsorbed and air is vented out. The other tower, saturated with solvent is regenerated by using steam to desorb the solvent. The steam and solvent mixture is condensed, cooled and then separated to recover the solvent. This bed is thereafter cooled using exhaust air and will be ready for the next cycle of adsorption. |
